Help with Printing and Purchase Options
How to Purchase
On any image, click the ‘Buy Photo’ button, and select the type of print you want to add to your cart. These include:
• Paper Prints (with framing options)
• Fine Art Prints
• Wall Art (ready to hang)
• Digital Download
• Greeting Cards (which you customize)
The most popular and easy choice is to select wall art - either canvas wrapped, or metal infused. Then simply receive your print, and hang it on the wall.
To ensure quality, Photo Baba uses a high-end premium lab known for professional results, including hand inspection of each print, and use of state-of-the-art printers giving continuous tones. Products are carefully packaged for shipment.
All prints are on high quality 'Kodak Professional Endura Luster' paper, using long lasting inks. We have standardized with 'luster' with a fine grain pebble texture which provides the color saturation of a glossy paper without the glare, along with the fingerprint resistance of a matte paper.
During the checkout process, for prints up to 24 x 36 inches you will see a 'Finishing Options' button next to each print, where you can optionally add framing and matting, or a backing. These options are offered at cost. Wooden frames are from genuine wood and thus have wood grain variations.
Fine Art Prints
These are paper prints using museum quality acid free paper and 12 different pigment based archival inks. Fine art prints while extremely long lasting, do not necessarily look better; in fact the Endura paper as mentioned above will have more punch and ability to show fine details.
Fine art prints do have a quality to them, that some people prefer, being a bit softer and a kind of almost painting eloquence. In general, if you are not intimately familiar with these and the trade-offs, then stick with the Paper Prints, which are also considerably less expensive.
Our standard fine art paper used is 'Moab Entrada Bright Rag' which is a 290 gram, 100% cotton, bright white, acid-free paper. Contact us for additional paper choices, including papers from Moab, Epson, Hahnemuhle, and Canson. Fine art prints are also known as 'giclee' (pronounced like 'zee-clay') prints.
These ready-to-hang products include:
• Wrapped Canvas (traditional)
• Framed Canvas (stretched)
• Flat Canvas
• Thin-Wrap Canvas
• Metal Infused Print
• Maple Wood Print
Canvas prints are printed directly onto museum quality canvas with archival inks (using a giclee process) which gives a bit of a painted-like softer appearance and texture. The popular wrapped gallery canvas is what most people are familiar with, where the picture is wrapped around the edges of the frame. When you select this, the area of the image that will be wrapped around the edges is shown in your shopping cart with a bluish overlay, so make sure that it fits well. Otherwise, one of the other wrap options (such as stretched) will work better.
Metal infused prints are known for their high resolution, luminescent quality, beautiful colors and for being long-lasting. All these attributes are a natural fit for many landscape prints. They are float mounted with a durable hanger attached directly to the back of the metal, which holds the print about a half inch away from the wall to give it further depth.
Maple Wood prints are printed directly on to 1/2" thick maple surfaced wood board, for a warm and natural-looking print that is also eco-friendly. The grain and other characteristics of the wood shows through the light and white areas of the image for a natural warm tone and vintage feel. A white ink underlay on the wood makes the true colors of your image pop. As the beautiful wood texture shows on the surface of your print; each wood print is unique, and no two prints will look precisely alike.
Sizing is displayed in inches.
Most of my images use a 2 x 3 aspect ratio and typically look best printed with the same ratio, such as 8 x 12, 12 x 18, 16 x 24, 24 x 36, or 30 x 45 inches. Using the metric system, 16 x 24 inches = 40 x 60 cm, and 24 x 36 inches is the equivalent of 60 x 91 cm.
A print of 16 x 24 inches is a popular size, particularly when matted in a larger frame. For ready to hang canvas and metal prints used as a centerpiece, in my opinion, 24 by 36 or 30 x 45 inches brings more life into the room, particularly with some empty wall space surrounding it.
A few images, such as a bird looking straight at you, or a bold flower, use a fine-art inspired square aspect ratio. These make nice accents on a wall, and in places that just seems right. Square prints have a 1:1 aspect ratio, and thus you would select a print size of 8 x 8, 10 x 10, 14 x 14, 20 x 20, 30 x 30, etc.
Panorama prints are typically in a 2:1, 3:1, or 4:1 aspect ratio, which I will include in the comments for those prints. Panoramas are often shot with very high megapixel resolution and can thus be printed quite large (up to 43 x 96 inches or 30 x 120).
When adding a photo to your shopping cart; if you select a print size with a different aspect ratio - a visual interface shows you how it will be cropped, as well as let you select which area of the image to print.
Specialty Papers and Sizes
Contact us if you would like a print on a metallic or matte paper, another type of specialty fine art paper, and/or a size not listed. Note that metallic papers are not the same as metal infused prints.
Shipping , Packaging, and International Considerations
Printing is done in the USA, and can be shipped to almost anywhere in the world. Prints and wall art are carefully packaged. For non-framed prints, instead of rolling them up, they are shipped flat and protected. Any (non-framed) print with an edge longer than 40" is rolled and shipped in a tube.
If you are in the UK or Europe and would like to make a purchase; contact me, as I can set up a gallery of the prints you are interested in for printing using Loxley Labs which is based in the UK. This should reduce the shipping costs and time to receive your masterpieces.
If you are in New Zealand, and would prefer to have your photographic prints, fine-art prints, and canvas wraps done by a high quality lab in Auckland, then please contact me (before placing an order). They use archival pigment based inks with a wide selection of papers, with each print personally inspected.
Credit Card Security
When it gets time to checkout and enter your payment details, this is handled with back and forth integration into Photo Baba by Smug Mug. Photo Baba does not see, process, or store your credit card information. SmugMug uses state of the art card tokenization from payment providers, so that card information does not pass through their systems as well. You may also use PayPal instead of a credit card.
Use a Currency of your Choice for Payment
Our website will use a currency that matches where you are viewing from. To change this, during checkout, on your shopping cart: select a different currency in the upper right-hand corner. Options include currencies from: USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Hong Kong, Europe, Great Britain, and Switzerland. You may use either a Credit Card or PayPal.
Keep in mind, that for refunds, if using a currency other than US dollars, there ‘might’ be a slight variation depending on currency changes.
Please contact me if you are a gallery owner who would be interested in an exhibition, with signed edition prints – and thank you for your interest!
